One thing I love about living here on the Island of Ohau is how kind everyone is when they are driving on the highway. You can't seem to go anywhere without someone throwing a shaka at you. Someone is always stopping so you can make a left turn or stops to allow others to merge in. I love watching Shakas being thrown around each other. It's very friendly and always brings a smile to my face.
One bonus for having a friend who is from the island of Kauai is that they let you use all their beach toys! I experienced surfing for the first time at Castles Beach with Sarah, Megan, and teacher Jackson Lewis. I was absolutely horrible and could hardly stay on the board. Sariah and I both were laughing so hard at each other. We cheered on Megan and Jackson who both caught a couple of waves. I honestly was just having fun sitting on the waves and admiring the island from the ocean. I did see some turtles swim by while sitting there. The turtle was SO CUTE.
One night we went crab hunting on the beach! I think this was my first time seeing crabs run across the sand. They were fascinating to watch. They pop out of their holes so fast and skitter down the sand and bury themselves right as the waves crash over them. I was a chicken and found myself screaming as I chased them across the sand. I never quite caught one. But Jackson let me hold his that he caught!
We had a ward Luau in the singles ward\ one weekend and I am going to be honest I was hesitant about attending the singles ward but our ward is actually really fun and it's basically all girls so there is no pressure of being around boys all the time who are thirsty for marriage. We find ourselves making the loop around the Laie temple a lot on our modes for or after church. Will this view ever get old?
It was Halloween at the preschool which is a HUGE deal if you are a kid. All week I was getting asked by the preschoolers what my costume was going to be. I would hear Aunty Mallerie what are you going to be nonstop all day. I was super stressed because I only came with a suitcase of clothes and nothing in there would work for a Halloween costume. And I really don't enjoy dressing up as much plus it's so hot. I decided I would be a bride so I borrowed my friend Mckaylah's white dress. When the kids asked me what I was I told them a bride they looked confused and walked off. HA! Heather had hade herself into a jellyfish after the one that stung us at the beach our first day. I thought she rocked it! Halloween felt like Halloween for once because we celebrated it with kids who actually love the holiday.
