Moloka'i

Moloka'i is not like the other Hawaiian islands. Gavin, Kadee, Franz, and I all flew over with Uncle Ken to experience the magic we hear him talk about. Uncle lives in Hauula but has several houses on Moloka'i. The flight over was the craziest flight I have ever been on. We were loaded into a small plane that was boiling hot and super loud. Good thing it was a fast flight or I would have lost my hearing. Ken was our personal tour guide. He is a small man with lots of knowledge. He drives an old red Toyota Truck. He picked us up and started showing us the tiny main street. There is a very expensive grocery store, a bowling alley that has been out of business for years, Moloka'i Burger, and Moloka'i pizza. That's about it. After some yucky expensive chicken nuggets, we went to the beach. The beach was completely empty and the water was crystal clear. Uncle Ken left us here for hours. We were starving and so thirsty the whole time. We ran around with Gavin's drone to pass the time. We could see the tip of Oahau from the beach.

Uncle Ken goes to bed early. So we went to bed early. His house was so hot though. We were melting. In the morning we started early with a full island tour. Uncle Ken pointed out the very old church and stone that used to be here. He was a fun fact Fredy. We took turns riding the back of the truck so we could get a break from him. Although he didn't know that. We went to an awesome beach to snorkel and after to the North side to hike! Moloka'i has some of the tallest sea cliffs in the world! We drove around to the more beautiful part of the island. I'm glad we had Uncle Ken to take us to the waterfall. He was walking through fields and Targo gardens turning this and that way. I would have never found it on my own. The waterfall was pretty beautiful. We swam for a bit and then Gavin flew his drone above and we saw three other waterfalls above the one we were at. Gavin showed Uncle Ken and he couldn't believe it. He had been coming to this waterfall his whole life and didn't know what was up there.

That night we watched a super boring black and white movie with Ken on the couch in the heat. Once it was over he took us to get Molokai Sweet bread. The best thing about Molokai is the sweet bread. They only make it at night and it becomes available after midnight. It tasted so good. We were starving the whole time with Ken because he doesn't eat. For breakfast, I saw him eat one square of a Chocolate bar!

We were there on Sunday so we attended church and the members here aren't super friendly to visitors which is different. There were signs on the island that said please leave or you aren't welcome and go home, Good to know right? After church, Ken didn't want to go out and do anything because it's the Sabbath and I respect that but we didn't want to sit inside all day. He said he doesn't do anything on Sunday but watches old general conferences. So he sat on the couch all day. We were starving, hot, and bored. So we told him we were going on a walk. His eyes got all big and he said "on Sunday?" Little did he know we walked to go out to eat. I don't know what he was thinking or how he was surviving but he somehow was. Next time I go to Molokai I will bring my own food. We were sure glad to get off that island Monday morning. Three days there is plenty of time. A Hui Hou Moloka'i.
