The Big Move to Hawaii

Heather and I always talked about moving to Hawaii on the mission. When my aunt Laurie invited me to stay with her and work at her preschool we couldn't say no! After my amazing summer in Ukraine volunteering, I packed my bag again and met my best friend at the airport for the next stage and adventure of my life! We only bought one-way tickets because we wanted to see where life would take us. I have not been to Hawaii since I came with my family in kindergarten. The only memories I have of Hawaii are watching people fire knives dancing, and seeing a pig on a roaster over the fire. I am ready for whatever adventure comes!
We flew Alaska Airlines and stopped in Seattle on the way. We didn't know the long flight wouldn't have food so we were starving the whole time. When we landed it was dark. I guess I won't be seeing my new home till the morning. My uncle Hank picked us up at the airport with fresh flower leis. We headed on the drive back to the North Shore where I guess I will live. Sam called Hank while we were driving asking where we were. Hank gave me the phone and told me to tell him Kanaohoe. I couldn't say this word for the life of me. I sure have a lot to learn. We told Hank we were hungry so he stopped at the local 7/11 on our way. Little did I know that this would be my first of many 7/11 runs. I got some noodle dish to eat.

The next day started out with a very hot humid run. I have never sweat so bad in my whole entire life. We of course had to see our new home so we walked to the beach and I couldn't believe how clear and blue the ocean was! I was shocked. We jumped in and swam right away and immediately got stung by Portuguese jellyfish. I guess they blow in every year for about two weeks. Go figure we get stung on our first day! Bring it on Hawaii!

There is no other better person who could show us around than my cousin Sam. The last time I saw Sam I think I was 5 years old. We were basically strangers. We got to know each other a little bit more as he took us on a hike to Luluhamu Falls! My first waterfall in Hawaii. Heather and I were in awe at the lush green forest we walked through.

I met up with my friend Sera Hone from high school and Snow College. Glad to see that she is living out her dream and made it to the island!

After our first day at Church Sam took out to a Heiau on the North Shore. Still can't believe that we are here!! We also went to the beautiful lighthouse Makapu'u. The area was closed but Sam says nothing is really closed in Hawaii. We loved jumping over the fences and sneaking around the lighthouse. Sam said he wanted to come there one day.

The rest of the month consisted of learning how to teach preschool and hanging out with our fellow mission friend Sariah! She moved in with her aunt in Laie to attend BYU Hawaii. Teaching at the preschool is way more fun than teaching in Ukraine. Kids say the funniest things. Heather is the P.E. teacher and I am the social studies teacher! We get along really well with the other teachers and I love getting to know the Wassons!
