The Start of BYU Hawaii

I have dreamed of this day for a long time. BYU Hawaii was my first pick of college back in high school when I was applying. I always felt drawn to come here. I originally wanted to try to run on the cross-country team but sadly the sports program has been dismissed. But honestly, that's okay because I really love what I am doing right now. I have officially graduated from Snow College with my associate in science. So now I am a junior at BYU Hawaii! I went to new students orientation where we did service up at Waimea. It was pouring rain and I think a lot of playing was going on rather than service. My group was in charge of pulling vines. Whatever that means. Most of us just swung on them like Tarzan. One thing I really love about BYU Hawaii is how beautiful the campus is. The mountains that sit behind the school are unreal. I love walking around the sunny campus. I think I will enjoy most of my classes. I have officially declared my major as Elementary education! My classes are pretty much all girls and are very small in size. My English teacher is a little intense but I love her dry sense of humor. On the first day, a student walked in late. She held an L with finer up to her forehead and pointed to the kid. And said L for late. Interesting gal. My friend Sariah missed her flight back home from Utah and decided not to come back to the island. I am honestly pretty sad that she was my bestie! Jackson also moved to Utah. I guess it's time to start making some friends!

I’ve already been to a school activity at PCC—it was canoe racing down the river. I was super excited and joined a random team; we were the second team to go. Unfortunately, the canoe tipped over, and Nikita, who was on my team, got a huge concussion from the boat. She’s in bad shape. We had switched seats last second, and I’m so glad it wasn’t me, but I still feel really bad for her. Overall, I think it’s going to be a good semester. Everyone acts so hyped and excited about being here, and honestly, I’ll take that over negativity any day! I also met three other girls who went to Snow College with me while I was on campus. Then, we all ran into President Carlson—the president when we were at Snow! He even invited us over for dinner at his house in Laie.
